Meikoh Shibayama incense is a specialist form of Japanese incense made by Nippon Kodo that has the aromatic fragrance of a floral meadow.
The incense was created to conjure up the scent of a spring meadow bursting with colourful blooming flowers. The incense has a floral, wood and herbal aroma and it’s a clean burning, low smoke product.
The base notes of the Meikoh Shibayama incense are sandalwood and hinoki, otherwise known as Japanese cypress, which together provide the woody elements of the scent. The floral and hints of herbal notes come from the top notes of the fragrance, which are produced using ingredients from flowers such as rose, jasmine and lily of the valley.
When you light this incense, you’ll notice that it’s not an overpowering fragrance – it’s much more subtle. It’s got a good balance of floral and woody notes and is a lovely incense to have burning at home or at work. The incense comes in attractively packaged Japanese style rolls and the large pack should last you a while.

Japanese incense (speaking in general terms) is refined, pure, light smoke and rich in natural ingredients such as sandalwood. They don't usually have the thin wooden stick centre that is often found in Indian and other incense sticks. They are normally pure incense right the way through the stick. They are often designed with meditation in mind. Due to the high quality manufacturing processes the incense goes through they can be a little bit more expensive than other incense on the market.
